The Chelatna Lake is located in a breathtaking region just in front of the Alaska Range. It is ca. 75 miles by air and can be reached by airplane in 35 minutes. In Chelatna Lake is the source of one of the best salmon and trout rivers the Lake Creek!
Throughout the whole summer, great quantities of Rainbow Trout can be caught there. The upper part of Lake Creek is counted among the most productive trout waters in all Alaska:
New since Spring 2005, we have stationed a boat with motor on Lake Chelatna. This allows our guests the opportunity to reach the best trout catching places.
The absolute best time for trout catching is mid-August to mid-September, during the spawning period of the Red Salmon (Sockeye). The trout feed themselves full on the salmon eggs. The late summer months are a real Eldorado for fly fishermen. With artificial salmon eggs (beads), one can bait these fantastic fighters. Practiced fly fishermen regularly manage to land more than 40 trout a day.
